Grape Creek ISD Athletic Director

Atwood

Kyle Atwood has been named the new Athletic Director at Grape Creek ISD.

Coach Atwood comes to the district from Central High School where he served as head track coach, assistant football coach and special teams coordinator for the past three years.  He began his coaching career at Alice ISD as special teams coordinator/inside receivers and track coach.

He helped coach both Alice and Central high schools to district championships and bi-district championships and helped lead the Alice team to an area championship, finishing with a 12-1 record and losing in the third round of the playoffs to Lake Travis who went on to win the state trophy.

In 2009, Atwood joined the coaching staff at San Angelo Central as assistant football coach and special teams coordinator with the task of rebuilding the 0-16 Bobcat team.  They finished their first season with two consecutive wins and the second season with a second place standing in district and a Bi-District championship.  During his third season with the Bobcats, the team won the school’s first District Championship since 1963, going on to win a Bi-District Championship and finishing with a 9-3 record.

As a six-sport high school student in Muleshoe, Atwood was a four-time state champion in track and field, an all-state receiver and a member of the Texas 3A State Semi-Finalist Football Team.  He continued his athletic career on scholarship to Texas Tech University where he lettered four years in track and field and earned five All Big XII Honors, two All Big XII Academic Honors and a Big XII Championship.

“It is my goal to unite a community behind a quality athletic program that is built around supportive and competent coaches, sound and consistent principles and techniques, genuine parental involvement, and young people who are striving to become productive citizens,” said Coach Atwood, “I am thoroughly excited to establish a consistent playoff and winning tradition at Grape Creek High School.”
