Welcome back to the 2016/2017 school year. We hope you had a wonderful summer and are ready to get to the task at hand for this year. There will be a couple of changes we are making this year to provide a safer and more effective transportation service to our riders.
Assigned seats - We will have assigned seats on our regular routes. This means every rider will have a specific seat in which they will be required to sit while being transported from home-to-school or from school-to-home. The reason for this move is SAFETY. We have been extremely lucky to have not had to do an emergency bus evacuation in the last few years. Because we transport K-12 grades on every route bus, we have had the younger riders ride at the front of buses while the older riders rode in the middle to rear of the bus. While there are seven emergency exits and the service door on our route buses, if the service door is blocked because of an emergency and the driver may be incapacitated, we want to ensure we can evacuate ALL riders safely and efficiently.
Video monitoring - We are installing new video monitoring equipment to ensure we can quickly and effectively address any issues with our buses. We are very aware "bullying" may occur on a school bus without the driver being aware. Our goal is to ensure each and every rider on our bus can do so without fear. The videos will be reviewed by transportation staff and/or administrators on a regular basis and under legal requirements, these videos are protected from disclosure to anyone not having legal access. School administrators are very aware of the requirement to protect the personal information of each and every rider we support. Riders need to understand if they are oppressed or don't like something, they need to let the bus driver know. The driver has the authority to take any action, for which they have been trained, to resolve a situation until such time as a campus administrator can be made aware.
Registration/Changes - To register your rider or make changes to your information throughout the year, please contact the campus your rider attends. This can be as simple as calling the campus or sending a note through the campus secretaries in advance. Notes given to bus drivers for TEMPORARY changes are turned in to the campus secretary to ensure verification of the information. Please do not expect transportation to make changes if the respective campus administration is not aware.
