Dear Grape Creek Family,

All of us at Grape Creek ISD were saddened to receive news last week of the death of Mrs. Carey Karvonen, one of our kindergarten teachers of two years. In her time at Grape Creek, she touched the lives of many students, parents, and staff. At this time we have not yet received information regarding funeral arrangements.

Students and staff will react in different ways. We should expect, try to understand, and accept a variety of emotions and behaviors. The most important thing we should do is to be supportive and to encourage discussion about Mrs. Karvonen, the feelings her death gives rise to, and ways we can respond to it.

Grape Creek Primary will have all four of the school counselors, the social services and outreach coordinator, and a school psychologist available to any child who may be affected by Mrs. Karvonen’s death. If you would like for one of them to reach out to your child, please contact the Primary at (325)655-1735.

We know that you will join us in our concern, support, and sympathy for those involved in and affected by Mrs. Karvenon’s death. As always, please reach out to the school if you or your child needs anything.
